THee Perfect Prom Date

Hmmmm....when posed the question as to my favorite blog entry of the year by tip junkie---I couldn't help but think of this one. Not your normal prom pictures but it definitly made it a night to remember....

What makes a perfect prom date?

{In Jo's case it was a cow}

They really MOOve to the music.

If they accidently step on your foot

you can MILK it for sympathy.

They are UTTERLY funny.

no need to rent a tux, they come with their own black tails,

you don't have to worry about them making a PIG of themselves at dinner.

One draw back
is their "grass" problem

and if you make a cow
really--
I mean really,
LAUGH
---
WILL milk come out its nose?
{And for that fact is it called a nose?}
No kiss goodnight--just a cow-lick

WHAT are you looking at?

sushi on saturday

my brain is in a fog and it is only a little after 7pm and i am wanting to go to sleep.

I can not concentrate on my "Trek" video--
the creativity is just not flowing:
I'm just not feeling the video love today
So i figure i might as well post and then maybe take a nap and try to find my MOJO later tonight

I love the fact that my children love food!
they love to watch the food network and are self described food network junkies. If there is an episode of IRON CHEF on you can guarantee that my children will be perched in front of the TV watching it.

Now this does not make them food network snobs--- they are willing to watch any channel...... that has to do with cooking or food.

They love to try new things
(some more willing than others)
and are willing to step outside
of the normal food box.
My children love to go to sushi
they each have their favorites
but are willing to try anything.
They {AH-SO} "COOL" in that
They know how to use chopsticks
even little man will try--
he hasn't quite figured it out yet....
I think it will only be a matter of time.
One thing about sushi is that it really is Colorful.

MASCARA CONTRACT WANTED

LONG LASHES
---yep, that's about it.
For those who have lash envy i am sorry.
These lashes are normally reserved for boys--
how did she managed to get them?
I forget how truly long they are
until i am slathering them with mascara.
They amaze me every time.
In the famous words of Napoleon Dynamite

Friday night FuN

Do i post the pre-prom pictures or just go straight for the prom? While the pictures of Jordyn getting her toes done and face waxed are entertaining--the real fun lies in the finished product. Friday night the boys went on father and sons camp out so that left us girls to get pampered. Prom was just a great excuse to make it happen.

Somehow i get a guilty pleasure watching my daughter go through the painful joys of womanhood--it just kinda makes me laugh--only because i know EXACTLY how she feels.
Someone thought the two girls were twins--

I just don't see it?

We went out for dinner at Efes Turkish Restaurant.

It was fun to be able to lounge
and enjoy our time together.
I sat in disbelief
at how my girls are growing up so quickly.
We had a sampler platter
and got to try a variety of things.
We each had our favorites.

Of course we had to get some hummus--

{Love the Hummus}

and then the girls really liked this plate once it was scrapped clean. They both really liked the colors on it--which led to a discussion of what color/kind of flowers they were going to have a their weddings..SCARY!
And how about those beautiful eyebrows on those girls. One of them has not had to do any shaping up to this point and then the other--oh yah, you already saw those pictures. But just in case you forgot

HEE HEE, i can feel the burn from here.

What was i thinking?

I decided it was not fair to those of you who actually check into my life for me to check out of it. Anyway how hard is to blog? I resisted the urge to post pictures earlier today and i figure since technically it is tomorrow i have not disobeyed my self imposed grounding from the blog.

I was a wee bit stressed
as i sat down to start working on this video.
WHAT WAS I THINKING?
I have a love hate relationship with this little box of mine--
today was more of the general dislike.
With some help from my girlfriends oldest son
i know feel like i can pull this off.
I told him that he had talked me away from the edge,
I can make this happen!
{I THINK}
I figure it will still take me the rest of the week
to pull it off though.
So far i have done about 30 seconds of 20 minutes--
well on my way if you ask me.
But actually the prep work takes a chunk of time.
Now its just a matter of the grunt work
and getting along with the computer for long periods of time.

Time out from blogging

Oh, so many things to write about.
So many pictures to post.
But i am grounded.
I am restricted.
{This is self imposed.}
I have to start using this computer for good,
and not for the evil time sucker it can be.
I have to work on the trek video.
I need to organize the 2000+ pictures
and make some sense of them.
I need to set them all to music,
I NEED to be INSPIRED.
I have put this off long enough,
and the deadline is drawing near
{This Sunday actually}
So i have banished myself from having fun
{I think that includes laundry}
You will find me chained to the computer,
eyes bleary,
a large bottle of Pepsi at my side
Working on this video
Till i can no longer see straight
and my computer boycotts.
WISH ME LUCK

now serving HUMBLE PIE

Mothers day
is one of those days that is dreaded by many.
I don't have a real feel for it one way or another.
In general
I just hate obligatory holidays.
Why do we need Hallmark to tell us to celebrate someone special?

I know that is just me--

even my anniversary is NOT a big deal--
{but that is a subject for another day}

I always feel bad for those who have not had the opportunity to be mothers--some things in life are not fair. I know many woman who are so amazing and have not had the chance to bear their own offspring for one reason or another, and yet they impact my kids or other peoples kids lives for the good. They are the "other mothers" that help to raise our brood. I want to honor them and not leave them out.

Then i feel sad for those friends who have already lost their moms at a young age. Is there ever a time when we don't need our mom's? I can't imagine not having that support.

And of course we can't leave out the talks on someones perfect saint like mother that make the rest of us imperfect people feel rather inadequate.

Then i go back to my childhood where as children we were less than perfect and somehow made my poor mom feel bad on her "one special day". We laugh about it now---and i have some understanding of what she was feeling at times. Why do we put such pressure on our children to perform and be perfect on one particular day, when the other 364 they can't even manage it?

Here is the ultimate stab to the perfect mother persona--

{i have since given up and
what you see is what you get.}

As a young mother you tend
to make statements
that years later
you regret ever saying,
or somehow they come back to bite you in the butt.
The minute it leaves
your mouth,
you are doomed
{with almost assured certainty}
that your children will take that statement
and do everything in their power
to prove it wrong.
I was dumb and naive in thinking that my children

  • would NEVER pick their nose,

  • bite other children,

  • Pass the sacrament with their zipper down

(this one has happened on several occasions)

and any other number of statements that start out with:

My children will never

(Fill in the blank)

A few years ago [can't remember the exact year] I had this ideal of what and how my children should look like when we went to church. I did the whole matching clothes thing. My little girls wore hats and gloves. My boys would look equally as cute and i always swore that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES would any of my children ever wear tennis shoes to church (or white socks--that's another story.)I felt that it was the ultimate in tacky and i would have no part in that.

There were certain parts of being

the perfect mother

that i felt i had some control over---

only to have the bubble burst

on one fine
MOTHERS DAY.

yes, mothers day was the day chosen to HUMBLE me

My children did not knowingly choose this day,

it just happened to be the

one special day

when I felt my children
were a direct reflection
of the job I was doing as a mother.
You want them to get up and
look perfect,
and sing perfect
(if you heard my children sing you would know that was a stretch to begin with)
as they perform those sweet mothers day songs. You hope they give you
a cute little wave
with that sweet smile,
and not hit or slug their sibling
(that was someone elses child--
NOT MINE)
{Anyway i digress}
On this given mothers day
to my ultimate horror and disgrace
church shoes came up:
M.I.A.
not only one child,
but TWO,
in tennis shoes.
Yes,
that was a proud motherhood moment for me,
{as i was choking on the
large portion
of humble pie
that my dear children
had so graciously served up for me}
I am sure no one else had a clue,
but deep down inside
at that moment I knew I had lost,

MOTHER

OF

THE YEAR AWARD.

There are some things you NEVER recoup from......

I am too tired

Is it ever too quiet?

tonight things are quiet at my house.
VERY QUIET.
Will I be able to sleep with all this quiet surrounding me?
Who will i nudge to quiet down?
Can i sleep WITHOUT ear plugs in?
I am missing all my roommates this evening
all of which snore.
like BIG DOGS!
{And since one actually is a dog that is only appropriate.}
Little man,dear hubby and the dog
are all up in the mountains
keeping the bears awake
(instead of me.)
So here i lay across the bed
taking up as much space as i want
and.....
missing the dog.
Well maybe the others as well
but, i should relish the quiet
they will be home soon enough---
tomorrow to be exact
and i will be back to nudging
fighting for my space
and sleeping with the earplugs
AMAZING how you get used to the NOISE.

Busdriving Perks

Some days i just love my job. Today happens to be one of those days. Who knew that driving a bus could have so many perks? I am currently sitting at Peter Piper Pizza {well that is actually the down side of the trip} checkin' my e-mail, eating lunch (again downside--except for the bread stick-it was kinda tasty---gosh i love my carbs) watching purses, shopping at Michael's and seeing the joy in kids with special needs. I took a group of special needs kids and their peers from my daughters high school for their last field trip of the year. As the kids were getting on the bus it made me think about Alex and the many field trips that he has taken this year. It really wasn't that long ago when you kept people with special needs away from "normal" people. I guess we have come to realize that there really is no such thing as "normal". Just varying degrees of abnormal. Aren't we all blessed with little oddities about us? It is neat to see the joy these kids come by--no preconceived ideas about others, none of that "normal" high school drama. We could all take a chapter out of their books on how to be happier people.

-----Now back to the pizza. Who really chooses to come to Peter Piper for the food? I mean as adults don't we have other/better choices that can be made? I am watching adults without children come to eat here. Am i being a food snob? I have never stepped foot into Peter Piper on my own choice--{ try to reserve the kicking and screaming to the children for when we leave} I guess the point i am trying to make is that, Why?---when there are so many other tasty food choices out there would you choose to come and eat lunch here. The bread stick was good but man can not survive on bread sticks alone.

One of the girls just brought me over a tootsie roll--there in lies the answer to not living on bread sticks alone--

YAH I do love my job today
